Up until the age of 9, I had a pretty unstable life. My single mother struggled to raise my older brother and I, while we were tossed in and out of foster care. Unfortunately, my mother was diagnosed with bi-polar disorder and worse than that, was and still is an alcoholic. She has allowed alcohol to take over her life, thus indefinitely losing custody of both my brother and I in 1994.
The last year or so I lived with my mother, due mostly to the influence of my grandmother, my mother would send my brother and I to Trinity Baptist Church on the bus. It was there that I heard a clear presentation of the gospel and realized my need of a Savior. After being dropped off at our apartment by the church bus, I told God that I knew I was a sinner and that because of my sin, I was on my way to hell. I asked him to forgive my sins and save me. That was July 1994.
Shortly after that day, I went to live with my grandmother after being taken from my mother for the last time. God knew exactly what He was doing when he allowed this to happen. Looking back, I see the unbelievably huge blessing it was to have been raised by my grandmother. God used her to teach me about the things of God. She instilled in me a love for God’s Word and his church.
I definitely wasn’t a perfect child or teenager, but whenever I wandered away from God to do what I wanted, He always had a way of bringing me back to Him. I surrendered to full time Christian service at Trinity Youth Camp in 2002. I had no idea what I was going to do, but one thing I did know was that whatever I did, I wanted to glorify God with my life. I enrolled in Trinity Baptist College when I graduated from public high school in 2003. In 2006, the Lord allowed me to go on a missions trip to the Dominican Republic, and it was there that I resolved in my heart that I would be a missionary. In 2007, I moved to Georgia to attend Our Generation Training Center. The Lord has taught me so much since I’ve been here.
In 2008, the Lord brought the most wonderful man in my life. The Lord was so faithful to give me a husband who loves Him and wants to glorify Him with his life! Ben and I were married last year and I’m so very excited to see what the future holds! I know that whatever happens, we want to bring glory to our wonderful Savior!
